People think we’re a little nuts for making a documentary about our big queer beautiful family.
But here’s what happened.
A couple of years ago, my whole family was sitting at a Skipping Stone benefit gala for transgender kids.
There was this beautiful preteen onstage, talking about how life had been so hard for him at school, how awful people had been to him since he came out as trans.
Then he said, “And I just keep wondering if it’s all worth it. Will anyone ever fall in love with me? Will I ever get to have a family?”
I was straining out of my chair. I was literally bouncing. Everything in me wanted to stand up and yell, “OHMYGOD YES!!! YOU WILL BE LOVED!!!”
I mean, have you seen how much I love my husband?
That’s how we ended up spending much of last year making a documentary with a grant from Storyhive. And it’s been a journey, friends– whoah.
This definitely falls under the “good thing we didn’t know what we didn’t know or we never would have attempted it” category, like so many of life’s best adventures!
But here we are, with a completed film in hand.
It will premiere at the Calgary International Film Festival in a couple of weeks.
It will be online for anyone in the world to see on September 30th. (Yes of course you’ll be the first to know when it’s up!)
And today?
Today we have a trailer to show you. (insert excited/nervous squealing sounds!!!!!)
Please watch it, and then please share it with everyone you know.
It’s scary and vulnerable to share our own family with you– but we think it’s worth it. Because our family is a big blended queer beautiful family, and EVERY family is a beautiful family.
Thank you.
Love you.
Seriously.
We couldn’t have done this without you.
much love,
Katherine
