I’m holed up in a gorgeous, quirky hotel right now, getting ready to host a two-day Rest & Rejuvenation retreat for my year-long clients. I’m going to have to meditate and laugh and eat and get massages. I know. My job is SO HARD.
It’s a good thing, though, because loves, I am TIRED.
Moving has caught up with me, and while I wasn’t watching, February snuck up on us too!
I have declared that this February is going to be different. I’m not going to have my regular February. I shall NOT slide into the dreary dark slog of bleak awfulness.
No, this year I’m conspiring to infuse February with a crazy ridiculous amount of bliss.
And it’s working!
The other day I asked my fellow co-conspirators what their favorite forms of free bliss were, and their responses blew my mind.
We are sitting at a banquet table, my friends. There is so much joy so close at hand, it’s kind of embarrassing that I’m ever grumpy at all.
So here, for you, is their list of free things to make you feel scandalously blissful, right now, for zero dollars.
Napping, Downton Abbey, other people’s gardens, my own library, my fave red underwear.
The scratchy feeling of a freshly line-dried towel on my wet skin.
Laying in bed or on the couch with a good book.
Feeling the vibrations of a purring cat nestled against me.
Swimming in the ocean and letting the salt water dry in my hair.
Listening to a really powerful piece of music that leaves me with goosebumps.
Clean sheets, the smell of pine, rain, fresh cut grass, eucalyptus.
Walking barefoot outside, afternoon naps, reading a good book, the Good Wife, ballet class, candles, time to drink a cup of tea and daydream…
1) Getting out for a run with a podcast I’ve been saving for that run.
2) Clean sheets
3) Shavasana
4) Fresh air, even for a moment
5) documentaries on PBS
The sun on my face and skin, swimming in a warm ocean, walking on a path or trail through the forest (especially in autumn), falling into a great book, fresh strawberries or tomatoes warm from the sun, the sound of children’s voices singing, watching birds in their natural habitats, being by water (rivers, lakes, streams, oceans)
1) A cup of tea or hot cocoa
2) A loooong hot shower
3) Binge watching something awesome, like The West Wing or Doctor Who. (Comfort TV)
4) Rereading a favorite book.
5) Organizing something like a closet or a drawer.
Finding a way to let the breeze blow on my face, napping with my dogs on the bed, a trip to the library, smelling my favorite hand lotion and morning pages.
A hot cup of tea, a hot bath, a big fat nap on clean sheets, making dinner, lit candles…
A cup of tea with my fuzzy slippers on, snuggling with the pups, singing my heart out, going to bed with freshly washed sheats and coffee outside on a sunny morning.
Red lips, my daughter’s laugh, sunshine, a hug, fire.
Clean sheets, warm baths, orgasms, a good run, dancing!
1. Re-reading a favorite book
2. A drive to the mountains
3. Tea & toast
4. Smell of flowers
5. A good movie and warm blanket on a cold day
Quiet in the middle of the day, sitting in the sun, being by the ocean, pole dancing (yes I said it), hugging my kiddos, COFFEE, wine, a great salad.
Bike rides down dappled streets, hot showers, snuggling with a heating pad while watching favorite British detective series, orgasms (duh), child’s pose, tickle fights.
This list just brings me to my knees, because it reminds me how insanely lucky we are to have so much joy just brimming all around us, begging to be savored. Let’s not waste it, you guys.
Today, please go do something that makes you one of the luckiest people on earth.
Right now I’m going to go take a bath, light a candle, and watch Downton Abbey. OMG the goodness of it. I am so rrrrrich. And you are too, dear heart.
much love,
Anna
