The night before I leave for Tokyo…

Uncategorized

I’m supposed to be packing right now for a trip to Tokyo.

I’m going back for the first time in two years; I haven’t been back since I left with my daughter and a suitcase right after the big earthquake.

It’s a huge journey across emotional territory.

But that’s not really what I’m struggling with right now; to be honest, I’m struggling with packing my suitcase.

So I’m procrastinating by writing you.

Sometimes it feels like life is easier for other people.  They tick things off with effortless competence: errands, bills, appointments, done.

You and I do those things too, of course– it’s just that it takes a lot of energy.

An inordinate amount of energy.

You plan and you plan, and you work and you work, and you even set up systems and reminders-but somehow it never quite seems to be enough.

Things slip through the cracks.  You find the form the day after it was due.  Little piles build up in odd places:  the edge of the stairs, that spot on the counter that’s supposed to be your writing nook.

Because who has time to file their receipts when there are great films to watch, good books to read, and golden afternoons to be savored?

Your life is rich, your imagination riotous, your inner world is luscious.

So why does so much time get sucked into dealing with one crisis after another?

The golden afternoons slip by and you’ve been running errands.

The dinner party is in an hour and your silk dress doesn’t fit right.

The big presentation is next week and the graphics are hideous.

You find yourself buying birthday presents the night before; you’re scrawling an apology instead of a thank-you; you have all these ugly shoes in your closet–  whose life is this anyway?

And somehow the important things– the blank canvases, the mission statement, the estate planning, the baby books– keep getting pushed to the back burner.

Sometimes it seems like other people have extra pages in their manual.  Their inboxes stay empty.  They always have extra whole-grain snacks.  Their wet wipes haven’t dried out.  They’re taking a flamenco class and going para-sailing next summer.

It’s not that you want to be perfect; you’re already damn great.

You just wish that it didn’t take so much work to keep everything moving.  (Or get your suitcase packed, dang it!)

The Queen Sweep is for women with big lives.  Big souls.

It’s not about being organized.  Pfffft.

It’s about living in beauty.  Calling in the wild dreams.  And letting your uncommon life unfold.

My own life has taken me places I never expected, and while I’m still not a fan of the part where you actually have to Place The Objects In The Traveling Container, I do manage to travel with a certain amount of style.

You can too.  Special early-bird royal pricing on the 2013 Queen Sweep ends Wednesday, and we’re filling up fast.  Grab your spot, harness your own magnificent energies, and take a clear look at where your journey might take you.

Just 7 minutes, because you're absurdly busy. 7 minutes to clear your mind and refresh your spirit. 7 minutes to thank your fierce tender holy sacred tired body. 7 minutes that'll leave you centered, grounded, & clear-- like the epic fucking badass you are.

Hello

I write things for women with big, gorgeous, COMPLICATED lives. I help women become epic fucking badasses… but I still retain my right to cry at every diaper commercial ever made.
